Trusting his entrepreneurial instincts, Ken Ellzey founded Ellzey Construction in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, in 1972. He and his team quickly developed a reputation for quality, service, and integrity. These traits remain the foundation of the company, which relocated to Florida in the mid-eighties to capitalize on the aging market, yet today.

We share a commitment to our customers and to each other, too. Many of us have been working together for decades…with many members of our families following in our footsteps. This is appropriate because we are like family. And, we treat our customers like family.

Our relationship with clients doesn’t end with construction. Actually, in ways it begins anew when we share a home warming toast. We remain lifelong friends with the people with whom we have the honor and the privilege to work. We are always here. We are more than a construction company. We are a constant.

Meet the Ellzey Home Team:

Sue Miller, President of Ellzey Construction

Some would call it chance, others destiny. Call it what you will, today, Sue Miller is the force behind Ellzey Construction. For decades, Sue played a supporting role in the homebuilder’s success story and now has earned her position as president.

It all started in 1975. Sue was a student at Louisiana State University studying business education. To complement her education, she started to work for Ellzey Construction. Well, it just so happened that Sue lived near the same subdivision as many of the homes being built by the company back then. So, absent of cell phones and so forth, Ken Ellzey would often ask Sue to swing by homes under construction to check on things. What she found on the job site was her passion…her livelihood.

Sue fit the business and the business fit her…odd as that might have been back in the day. Ken and Sue kept building. You name it, they built it: houses, duplexes, commercial properties, etc. Then, in 1985, they relocated the company to Gulf Breeze, Florida, with the focus of building for the growing retirement market. Their goal was to help people downsize in space but not in quality.

In 2003, Sue took over reins as president. She’s come a long way from working out of her Toyota Camry at the job site to earning respect industry wide as one of the region’s finest homebuilders.

Cheryl Ballou, Office Manager of Ellzey Construction

As Office Manager, Cheryl does a little bit of everything, which ends up being a lot! She meets with clients, visits job sites, runs the office, heads up accounting, and handles computer work. Having worked for Ellzey Construction since January 1991, Cheryl is perfectly suited for these tasks and many more.

Prior this Cheryl's career with Ellzey Construction, she worked as Payroll Supervisor for Pomponio Brothers Construction and as Office Manager for the National Steel Erectors Association, both located in Washington, D.C.

She graduated from Shepherd University in Shepherdstown, West Virginia, with a bachelor's of science degree in Business Administration/Accounting. Cheryl and her husband, Bill, raised four children in Gulf Breeze, Florida, and today enjoy spending time with four grandchildren living in the area.

Marsha Lewis, Interior Designer

Marsha is a licensed interior designer and founder of Interior Concepts, Inc., a 29-year-old firm. She has earned multiple awards for her design skills. Working with Ellzey Construction for about 20 years, she has helped hundreds of homebuyers with selecting colors, flooring, counter tops, and space planning ideas.

Sharon Abels Hamner: Agent, Montgomery Realtors

After a long and prestigious career in the law sector in Louisiana, Sharon realized her dream to live permanently in Florida, by moving to Gulf Breeze with her family in 1984. In 1991, after obtaining her real estate license, Sharon joined Montgomery Realtors where she still is today.

She was given the opportunity by Ellzey Construction Company to sit open house in their model home in Tiger Point. As they say, the rest is history. Sharon was fortunate to become part of the team led by Ken Ellzey, Sr. and Sue Miller in the building and sale of three subdivisions in Tiger Point, Grand Pointe East in Gulf Breeze, and the Whispers in Pensacola.

Sharon is grateful for her long association with an organization that is the epitome of integrity in the business world. She believes in what she sells. She lives in Tiger Point in the second home that Ellzey built for her having sold the first home Ellzey built for her on Pensacola Beach.
